Why Fortnite is one of the best games in existence, and why the gaming landscape is changing.

Before we get started, the dictionary definition of “memes” is:

1: an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture.
Merriam-Webster, 2018

A meme is an idea or item or whatever that is spread throughout pop culture, this can be refined from anything large as the entire world down to something small as a pair of siblings.

Which means that the Fortnite community can be a group that contains memes, and they do.

The most prevalent ones are the boogie bomb; and the launch pad, commonly dubbed the “meme pad”.

I couldn’t find a nice image for the launch pad

The boogie bomb is a grenade that makes everyone boogie within a certain radius when it hits a surface. This item makes the developers look absolutely moronic for adding such an item. In fact, the boogie bomb is one of the most balanced weapons in the game: they’re rare, but to make up for that, they explode on impact, not after a certain amount of time; they also allow the affected to run around at normal speed, allowing them to dodge the attacker’s shots, and maybe defend against them.

These items do more than just their functionality in the game, they keep the Fortnite community together. Does anyone remember Public Battle Grounds? That game was lost in the dust by Fortnite. This was due to the absolute boringness of the game — it had no fun, no games, no memes, just seriousness.

Fortnite is the polar opposite of this, just look at this photo:

Okay then

It speaks for itself.

Memes are taking over maturity. People no longer want the hyper-realalistic games — they want the crazy ones, the ones that’ll make a great experience, no matter if you win or loose, because those are the games that anyone with any experience can enjoy.
